Basic Introduction to Plastic UV Absorber UV-531

UV-531. Chemical name: 2-hydroxy-4-n-octyloxybenzophenone. Molecular formula: C21H26O3. CAS No. 1843-05-6. Main chemical indicators: Appearance: pale yellow acicular crystalline powder. Content ≥99%. Melting point 47–49°C. Ash <0.1%. Light transmittance: 450 nm >90%, 500 nm >95%. Solubility (25°C, g/100 g solvent): acetone 74, benzene 72, methanol 2, ethanol (95%) 2.6, n-heptane 40, n-hexane 40.1. Characteristics and uses: UV absorber UV-531 is a high-performance, highly effective anti-ageing additive that absorbs UV light of 240–340 nm, with features such as light color, non-toxicity, good compatibility, low migration and easy processing. It provides maximum protection to polymers and helps reduce color, while delaying yellowing and retarding physical-property loss. It is widely used in PE, PVC, PP, PS, PC, acrylic, polypropylene fiber and EVA. Moreover, for dry alkyd and amino clear lacquers, polyurethanes, acrylics, epoxies and other air-drying products, as well as automotive refinish paints, powder coatings, polyurethanes and rubber products, it provides good light-stabilizing effects.
