BUCT-Tiangang Tenak Scholarship Officially Signed

On the afternoon of July 14, 2017, the signing ceremony of the "BUCT–Tiangang Tenak Scholarship" was successfully held at Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT).

    On July 14, 2017, the signing ceremony of the BUCT–Tiangang Tenak Special Scholarship was grandly held at the School of Materials Science and Engineering of BUCT. The scholarship runs for four years, from 2017 to 2020. Its purpose is to use the scholarship as a platform for enterprises and universities to jointly cultivate innovative, dedicated chemical talents—addressing the problem of professionals who look good on paper yet lack practical skills and leave quickly—and to find a viable path for sustainable enterprise development in terms of talent.

    In addition, the special scholarship will help students from financially disadvantaged but academically dedicated families complete their graduate studies and provide necessary living support.

The special scholarship was established by Beijing Tiangang Auxiliary Co., Ltd.

    Beijing Tiangang Group is devoted to R&D, industrialization and application of high-performance functional additives for polymer new materials. Among its subsidiaries, Beijing Tiangang Auxiliary Co., Ltd. is a leading enterprise in China's polymer additive field—a national-level high-tech enterprise that has spent more than 20 years developing weathering technologies and related additive products. It hosts the "China Plastics Processing Industry Weathering Technology Laboratory" and a Beijing municipal enterprise technical center. Beijing Tenak New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. centers on its original "targeted nano-enhancement technology" and is an R&D-oriented manufacturer applying nanotechnology in polymer materials, ranking internationally leading in simultaneous toughening and strengthening of polymers, antibacterial and antimold functions, conductivity, and high-end in-situ coloring of chemical fibers.

    Li Yuqing, General Manager of Beijing Tiangang Auxiliary Co., Ltd., said that students spend 4 or 7 years at university but, once recruited by enterprises, take a long time to align with enterprise needs. He believes this special scholarship will change that situation, pushing students who join enterprises to work steadily from the ground up and become the practical talents the enterprises need.

    Luo Daoyou, General Manager of Beijing Tenak New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. and Chief Engineer of Beijing Tiangang Group, said: the scholarship will be awarded to graduate students at the School of Materials Science and Engineering of BUCT, selecting those of good character who show genuine interest in high-performance additive and nanomaterial fields; these students will be brought into enterprises for practice to learn basic work skills, then further selected for on-post practice and possibly participation in high-level projects and research. He hopes this approach cultivates talents who are grounded, practical and innovative for enterprises.

In addition, scholarship recipients will receive guidance from enterprise technical experts—called enterprise mentors—during their studies, so that what they learn is better integrated with practice.

    According to Song Laixin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of BUCT, in recent years BUCT's scholarship system has developed rapidly into a high-quality education platform with broad student coverage, sound review mechanisms and profound educational significance. In particular, the School of Materials Science and Engineering has formed a college-specific education system and, through industry-academia-research cooperation, supports student employment and entrepreneurship. The School alone has established 35 special scholarships with an annual award amount of 1.895 million yuan, benefiting more than 500 students.
