Light stabilizer 3808 is a substance that suppresses or weakens the degradation of plastics by light and improves the light resistance of plastic raw materials. Most such substances absorb ultraviolet radiation, which is why they are also called UV absorbers. Ultraviolet radiation in sunlight is the main cause of ageing in polymeric materials.

The mechanism of light stabilizer 3808 varies with its own structure and type. Some can shield or reflect UV light, or absorb UV light and convert it into harmless heat energy; some can quench the excited state of molecules or groups excited by UV light, returning them to the ground state and eliminating or slowing the possibility of photo-oxidation-reduction reactions; some capture free radicals generated by photo-oxidation-reduction, thereby preventing the free-radical reactions that cause product ageing and protecting products from UV damage.
