Structure Tiangang® HS-944
Description

Tiangang® HS-944 is a highly effective radical scavenger that protects organic polymers against degradation caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation. It is an oligomeric HALS characterized by extremely low volatility, high thermal stability and compatibility with many substrates. Its oligomeric structure makes it particularly effective when used in thin section articles such as fiber and film. Tiangang® HS-944 is suited for use in polypropylene, LDPE, HDPE, XPE, EVA and PP blends with elastomers. Tiangang® HS-944 is also effective as an antioxidant for long term thermal stability.

Upgrade path

See Tiangang® HS-950. This is the next generation of 944. Same triazine oligomeric HALS chemistry, high molecular weight, low volatility and extraction resistance, positioned as higher light stability at a cost advantage. Formulations already running 944 can be evaluated for a direct switch without touching the other components.

For film and fibre, HS-950 is the first choice; for thick mouldings, T-78 and HS-788 are the alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

How does HS-944 compare with 622?

944 is a triazine-based polymeric HALS with high molecular weight and good extraction resistance. 622 is polyester-based, with a lower melting range and easier dispersion. Thin parts and fibre usually go with 944; where dispersion and lower processing temperature matter, look at 622.

Why does 944 lose effectiveness in sulfur or chlorine systems?

944 is an N-H type HALS with relatively high basicity; acids protonate it and it stops scavenging radicals. Sulfur-bearing pesticides, halogenated flame retardants and acidic fillers all fall into this category — switch to a low-basicity or NOR-structured grade in those systems.

Which grade is the upgrade path?

Within the same family, HS-950 is the next generation of 944 with higher light stability. Formulations already running 944 can be evaluated for a direct switch.
